Nusantara Languages

Development
|
According to SIL International, Indonesia is one of the
most linguistically diverse countries in the world. Gordon, Raymond G., Jr., in
his book Ethnologue: Languages of the World,
Fifteenth edition. Dallas, Tex.: SIL International (2005),
mentions that the number of languages listed for Indonesia is 742. Of those,
737 are living languages, 2 are second languages without mother-tongue speakers,
and 3 are extinct.
An example of an extinct language is Petjo (alternatives name: Petjoh or Pecok) which
was once used in Djakarta. Several other languages are living languages with
less than 500 speaker, for examples: 1. Bukat, 2. Bukitan and 3. Kereho-Uheng (1-3 are
used by Dayak Punan, scattered in Kalimantan), 4. Kayan or Wahau (Dayak Kayan, Kalimantan),
5. Bahonsuai (Central Sulawesi), 6. Budong (70 speaker left, 1988, South Sulawesi), 7. Komodo
(Nusa Tenggara), 8. Abinomn (Foya Mountains, Jayapura), 9. Anus (Tor River, Jayapura), 10. Awera
(Yapen Waropen), 11. Bonerif (only 4 people left, 1994, village of Beneraf. Jayapura),
these language obviously will soon be forgotten by coming generations.
This web page is the preliminary stage of recording the Nusantara languages,
bit by bit, byte by byte, with very limited resources and technology.
However, in the near future, even if our resources are imposued, these languages soon
will be extinct, hence it is our priority to record them, not only in the form of a dictionary
but also as sound. We need a support from you, so that this work can grow.
Please support us with whatever resources you have.
This work is presented to our beloved country: Indonesia
To mark Independence day.

What Next?

Development
|
We plan to develop other applications such as a Thesaurus of Indonesia,
Jawa, Sunda, Aceh, Bugis, Papua, Ambon, etc., including synonyms, antonyms, and Acronyms.
If you would like to hear the sound of the words in the dictionary, you will have to wait until
the speech Recoqnition to English, Bahasa Indonesia,
Jawa or Sunda is added. If you want to know the word in Jawa, but you know in English and
you don't want to type, you can use the dictate applications, just say your
word in English and you will get the word in Indonesia, Jawa, Sunda, Papua, Lampung, Padang, etc.
The applications that we plan to develop are shown below:
Thesaurus (Synonyms, Antonyms, Acronyms, etc.) for Indonesia, Jawa, Sunda, Bugis, Makasar, Aceh, etc.
